Recently congress met in committee to attempt to garner support for a series of bills they wish to pass to start places controls on Internet gambling. The bills and controls have serious issues with First Amendment rights that allow the Internet to display just about any content it desires. Congress has mainly tax dollars in their eyes as they see the Internet producing millions of dollars in revenue that goes under the tax radar.
Even sites that are in the USA proper many times do not report all of the earing that they have made and therefore do not pay the full tax amount they should. It is an effort of congress that has been around for years in one area or another. Ever since revenue from the Internet reached near epic proportions, congress has had it in their heads to get a piece of the pie.
Will this change on line gambling? Most likely it will not. The fact is that there is a great amount of power behind many of the Internet moguls that goes against such action. Most Internet businesses only charge sales tax to clients in their home state. Many do not use any form of tax controls at all, while others base a portion of their business in another country to completely avoid tax issue in any way.
Internet gambling is a strong and thriving business that has a great deal of power backing it in many regions. There is very little chance that an avid on line gambler will see a change in their gaming habits. If there is a change in the laws, rest assured that the industry will alter in such a way to accommodate these changes and continue doing business as usual.
